Welcome to Mrs. Schnack's First Grade Class!
Please remember that our Thanksgiving feast is this Friday at 11:45 sharp! The ABCs of Thanksgiving presentation that the kids will be putting on for you all will start right at 11:45. We will be enjoying a traditional Thanksgiving feast right after the presentation. A huge shout out to all of the wonderful Thanksgiving party planners who are bringing all the food and helping plan this fun party! If you plan on taking your child home after the feast, I will have a sign out sheet in the classroom.
Please be sure to have your child practice reading their lines for the feast each day so that they are comfortable, confident, and able to read the words on Friday. We will start practicing tomorrow. Also, just a reminder that students are encouraged to dress up as pilgrims or Native Americans. Please be sure to ask your child what they chose.
This week in math, we will continue to practice subtraction. Today, we learned about how you can use addition to help you solve subtraction problems. We will also start practicing subtraction word problems. We will be focusing on reading word problems CAREFULLY and really thinking about what the word problem is asking.
In language arts, we will be reviewing all digraphs (ch, sh, ph, th, wh). We will be reading the story Harry the Dirty Dog and practice making predictions, retelling, and writing the beginning/middle/end of the story. Our sight words this week are: boy, girl, out, not, but.
In social studies, we will continue to learn about the first Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving traditions, and talking about what we are Thankful for. We will practice the writing process (pre write, edit, final draft), by writing about what we are thankful for.
Please remember that next week is a short week due to Thanksgiving! We will only be coming to school Monday and Tuesday. Please let me know if your child will not be here next week.
Thank you so much! Please let me know if you have any questions.
